H&M is popular because of their super affordable prices for extremely trendy fashion and infectious collection collabs. But fashionistas love H&M for a plethora of other reasons, too. The Swedish brand rewards its shoppers when they make purchases through free shipping, extra rewards points and more.
The inventory flies off the store shelves at a rapid rate, which is exactly what H&M intends. They make limited numbers of styles so there’s less chance for leftovers that go to waste. Once a product sells out, it’s likely gone forever to make way for newer fashion trends.
As much as we love the prices at H&M, it is possible to find extra ways to save money on every purchase at the fashion-forward retailer:
1. Join the H&M Loyalty Program
The first thing savvy shoppers know is joining a store’s loyalty program is the fastest way to save at the retailer. And when you do that at H&M for free, you’ll receive exclusive discounts, $5 rewards and 10% off your first purchase. The points you earn last for 12 months.
In 2021, H&M offered new members 30% off for joining and first dibs on early Black Friday deals both online and in stores and, throughout the year, has surprised members with $10 in rewards for every $50 spent. It pays to join this free program. Plus, members can get up to 30% off and free shipping for “Pick Your Weekend” deals.

3. Follow the H&M Sale Calendar
It’s hard to not find a sale at H&M. Although the pickings could be slim, it’s a great time to save on past seasons’ merchandise. These are the most prominent H&M sales and a rough idea of when they happen during the year.
This is the sale you can shop always throughout the year. It includes women’s, men’s and kids’ apparel and everything for your home.
H&M Member Days Sale
Member Days are special events with one-day deals, giveaways and more for new and existing Loyalty members. The sale days are sporadic, but we’ve seen them pop up in March and October. Follow H&M’s social media to get alerts.
The H&M Spring Sale usually starts mid-March and runs through April, when you can snag an extra 20% to 25% off already reduced merchandise on specific days throughout the sale.
Memorial Day Sale
The H&M Memorial Day Sale has offered discounts of up to 60% off with deals starting at $4.99. Memorial Day weekend in 2023 starts on May 26.
Summer Steals Sale
The great thing about the Summer Sale at H&M is that it happens during the summer. It usually starts toward mid-June with savings of up to 50%. It lasts throughout the month of July (sometimes called “Black Friday in July” in past years) when the discounts get much deeper. You can save on in-between season staples with up to 70% off, and there are usually opportunities for Loyalty members to take an extra 15% to 20% off.
Labor Day Sale
The long holiday weekend during the first part of September has held discounts of up to 60% off everything storewide at H&M. Mark your calendars for Labor Day weekend starting Sept. 2 this year.
H&M’s Fall Sale is an end-of-season event with up to 60% off fall styles. It’s meant to sweep the racks to make room for winter apparel. Loyalty members have received offers for extra savings of 25% off sale merch and everyone else has received an extra 20% off. The Fall Sale usually starts at the end of September with deeper discounts of up to 70% off arriving in October. But, as with everything at H&M, you risk sizes and styles selling out.
Black Friday Sale
H&M usually kicks off Black Friday early with 20% off everything offers when you can’t wait for the biggest shopping day of the year to get here. Past Black Friday sales have included 30% off everything and 60% off doorbusters. This year, Black Friday is Nov. 25.
Cyber Monday Sale
For the last several years, H&M has offered 30% off everything during their Cyber Monday sale. It’s usually a sale that’s carried over from the Black Friday weekend.
You can save up to 70% off styles starting at $7.99 during the H&M Winter Sale that typically kicks off the day after Christmas and lasts into January. It’s one of the last times you can score super deep discounts from last season’s merch.
4. Shop the H&M Outlet Store
As inexpensive as H&M merchandise is, there’s a way to save even more — the H&M Outlet store. Inventory is constantly changing, so check back often for the best selections.
5. Get an H&M Coupon With a Donation
Since 2013, H&M has been trying to reduce its mark on the environment. The garment collecting program includes in-store recycling boxes across the globe for you to donate your unwanted fashion. When you donate, H&M gives you a coupon to use on your next purchase.
How To Get Your H&M Coupon:
1. Bring a bag of old clothes to any store.
2. Give the bag to the person at the register.
3. You’ll get a “thank-you coupon” to use toward your next purchase.
What Does H&M Do With Donated Clothes?
H&M sorts the donated merchandise according to its level of wear. This is how it’s categorized:
- Rewear: Wearable and considered secondhand clothing.
- Reuse: Items are turned into other products, like remade collections or cleaning cloths.
- Recycle: Shredded into textile fibers and used to make other items.
6. Claim an H&M Student Discount
If you’re a student, you get a whopping 20% off your H&M orders by verifying your status through Student Beans. It lasts the whole time you’re in school, so make sure you’ve signed up for free through Student Beans. When there’s not a sale at H&M (which is rare), you’re guaranteed to get your 20% off student discount.
7. Get Savings on H&M Gift Cards
From time to time, H&M offers extra savings on gift card purchases. For example, this past May, you could get $10 off when spending $100 or more on the purchase of an e-gift card for a recent graduate — or really anyone, even yourself. Keep an eye out for these deals, especially around any major holiday.
8. Save More on Basics With Multipacks
Basics are, well, basic, and you probably need multiples of one type of them. Take, for example, men’s socks, T-shirts, shorts and underwear. That’s why H&M sells multipacks of these types of basic products. For women, they offer multipacks of underwear and some socks.
9. Get an Online Price Match
When you’re shopping at an H&M store and an item you want is cheaper online than it is in store, show the online item to the person at checkout and you’ll get the lower price. The product must be identical (i.e. same product number) and available to purchase. The same goes for an online offer or promo. Just show the clerk at checkout, and you can get the online discount for your purchase in-store. See which other stores price-match.
10. Follow H&M on Social Media
H&M regularly posts on its social media channels. By “following” or “liking” them, you’ll get inside intel on new collection drops, sales and tons of fashion inspo. The customer service reps are also pretty quick to respond to your messages.
Here are H&M’s social media channels:
11. Use Klarna to Pay for Your Purchase
While not a savings tip, Klarna lets you pay for your H&M purchase over time, which comes in handy around the holidays. And from time to time, Klarna offers incentives for shopping at certain retailers. This option is available only to Loyalty members.
12. Get Free Shipping at H&M
H&M offers a wide variety of shipping options. But the No. 1 way to get free shipping is — you guessed it — sign up for the Loyalty program. Members get free shipping all the time, plus the UPS Access Point delivery option for free.
H&M Pickup In-store
H&M’s in-store pickup isn’t a buy online and pick up in-store option. With this shipping option, you select delivery to an H&M store and then you go to the store and pick it up. But it’s free for Loyalty members and everyone else for orders over $40.
13. Know the H&M Return Policy
Shoppers have 30 days to exchange or return merchandise for a full refund with a receipt. After 30 days, you can only exchange the item at the current selling price. And H&M says on its website that, “Special collections and designer collaborations may be subject to a return policy that may differ from our standard return policy.”
H&M lets you return merchandise online and in stores, but you can exchange items only in stores. H&M HOME merchandise purchased online must be returned by mail.
Note: Undergarments are a Final Sale, swimwear must have its hygienic seal intact and beauty products must be unopened for a refund or exchange.
Outside any special promotions H&M offers, there are two ways to get free returns. The first is to take your unwanted merchandise to a nearby H&M store. The second is joining the H&M Loyalty Program because you’ll always receive free returns.
Over the holidays, usually, right before Thanksgiving in November to Dec. 24, the H&M return policy usually extends to Jan. 31 of the following month.
How to Make H&M In-store Returns
Take your return, along with a receipt to a nearby H&M store for a full refund within 30 days from purchase. Without a receipt, you’ll receive an in-store exchange at the current selling price.
How to Make H&M Returns by Mail
To return your purchase via USPS, use the pre-paid return label included with your online order or print one out. The $5.99 shipping fee is deducted from your refund if you aren’t a loyalty member.
14. Join H&M for an Employee Discount
H&M offers tons of opportunities for first-time job seekers and college students. Employees receive a 25% discount along with plenty of benefits. Be on the lookout for on-the-spot interviews and job offers in June for National Hiring Day, which H&M actively takes part in.
15. Download the H&M App
These are some features you can use with the app:
Scan & Find
Use the Scan & Find feature to find out if an item is available in other sizes and colors. Just open the app and scan the barcode. Buy the item right away online or check if it’s available at other H&M stores.
Use Visual Search through the H&M app to explore merchandise using your photos. It recognizes patterns, colors and products, and then gives you a list of matching or similar items in stock at H&M.
16. Sign Up for H&M Emails
Sign up to receive H&M emails for 15% off your order. Email is also the method H&M uses to inform shoppers about upcoming sales, new drops and more.
17. Use an H&M Promo Code
Check the H&M store page at RetailMeNot for the current promos offered at your favorite retailer. You’ll find free shipping discounts (if you aren’t a Loyalty member), discounts on specific merchandise and more.
18. Earn Cash Back at H&M
RetailMeNot offers plenty of cash back opportunities all the time. For example, you can get 1% Cash Back on your online H&M order. These cash back offers change every month, so check the H&M page for the latest. And if you add Deal Finder to your browser, it will automatically apply the best discounts and cash back to your order.
