Let me start by telling you what Kohl’s Cash isn’t — it’s not real, legal currency, but it is the same green hue as bona fide, government-issued cash.

Kohl’s Cash is a rewards coupon for customers who meet, or exceed, the minimum purchase threshold set by Kohl’s during its Kohl’s Cash events. According to Kohl’s, “It’s like getting paid to shop.” Basically, Kohl’s Cash works like an extra discount on eligible merchandise to be used later on during a predetermined time frame.

How to Earn Kohl’s Cash

1. Shop During Kohl’s Cash Events

Kohl’s runs special promos throughout the year, during which you can earn Kohl’s Cash on eligible online and in-store purchases. The timing of Kohl’s Cash events varies, but you can count on them at least once every month.

During the Kohl’s Cash events, you receive a $10 Kohl’s Cash coupon for every $50 you spend on a single transaction. The Kohl’s Cash you earn is determined by the total purchase of qualified merchandise (after other discounts and taxes apply). So, the more you spend, the more Kohl’s Cash you’ll earn and the more savings you get on a future purchase.

In the past, we’ve also seen Kohl’s offer an elevated Kohl’s Cash earnings rate ($15 in Kohl’s Cash per $50) during its Black Friday sale. And beauty lovers, just so you know, you can’t earn Kohl’s Cash on Sephora at Kohl’s purchases (insert super sad face). Find out whether Kohl’s is running a Kohl’s Cash promo now.

2. Become a Kohl’s Rewards Member

If you’re a regular Kohl’s shopper, the first thing you’ve hopefully already done is to join the free Kohl’s Rewards program. As a member, you earn 5% back from your purchases, or $5 for every $100 you spend. Once your balance reaches $100, it’s automatically converted to $5 Kohl’s Cash increments (or more if you’ve spent more) on the first day of the following month. Note: The $5 Kohl’s Cash is only valid for 30 days.

How To Get Your Kohl’s Cash

Once you’ve earned it, getting your hot little hands on your Kohl’s Cash is simple. If you earned your Kohl’s Cash inside a Kohl’s store, you’ll get a Kohl’s Cash coupon at the time of purchase. But for purchases made at, a Kohl’s Kiosk or through the Kohl’s App, your Kohl’s Cash arrives in an email within 24 hours. Just follow the instructions in the email to print your Kohl’s Cash. Make sure you save the email because you won’t get another one.

If you’d prefer not to print it out, you can scan your Kohl’s Cash from a mobile device, at a Kohl’s store at checkout or added to your Wallet in the Kohl’s App. Tip: With the Kohl’s App, you can set reminders to use your Kohl’s Cash before it expires.

How To Add Kohl’s Cash To Your Wallet

  1. Go to or launch the Kohl’s App.
  2. Select the menu in the upper left corner.
  3. Select your Wallet.
  4. Select “Kohl’s Cash” to scan or manually enter barcode.

How To Use Kohl’s Cash

This part is easy. As soon as Kohl’s announces its Kohl’s Cash earning period, just shop like you normally do. Then, for every $50 you spend on eligible purchases, including sale-, regular- and clearance-priced merchandise, you’ll get a $10 Kohl’s Cash coupon. The earning period ends on whatever date Kohl’s specifies (usually at 11:59 p.m. CST on the last day of the promo).

You can’t use your Kohl’s Cash right away, but the dates you can use it are on the coupon. The redemption period usually starts as soon as the earning period ends and typically lasts for several days, up to about 10 days. And, you can combine your Kohl’s Cash with most discounts Kohl’s is offering during that time.
