Where You Can Find Cheap Jordans — That Are Authentic and Fly

Air Jordans are iconic, stylish and highly coveted. They’re also timeless. Going back to its public launch in 1985 through the present day, its demand has certainly never waned.

Nike made its original Air Jordan sneakers exclusively for six-time NBA champion and Hall of Famer Michael Jordan when he began playing for the Chicago Bulls. The shooting guard quickly became a fan favorite — even in opposing team’s arenas — and The New York Times dubbed him “the phenomenal rookie of the Bulls.” Fans voted him into the All-Star game as a starter during his rookie season, a remarkable feat.

In late 1984, the first pair of Jordans was released to Jordan and in 1985, it became available to the public. Jordans quickly catapulted as a status symbol for a variety of reasons: the basketball player’s tremendous talent and the impact he immediately made on the sport, his style, the shoe’s simple design and high-quality materials like full-grain calfskin and premium leather uppers.

This luxury-brand designer sneaker tends to appreciate in value over time. Plus, the limited release makes them rare, therefore creating more demand. Consider this: a Sotheby’s auction fetched $560,000 for a pair of autographed first-generation Jordans the pro baller first wore!

Nearly 40 years since that first pair was introduced, interest has continued to soar much like its iconic namesake when he became airborne for a classic slam dunk. According to WWD, last year five million people registered for a chance to purchase limited edition Air Jordan 1 OG Dior sneakers. The kicker? Only 8,000 pairs were available for purchase with a price of $2,000 and $2,200.

OK, so now that you know a pair of Jordan sneaks are a highly coveted status symbol that is also comfortable, the better news is that they’re actually accessible. Affordable options exist and when you get savvy about savings like tapping into tax-free weekends in certain states on footwear less than $100 (state regulations differ), buying a pair won’t necessarily break the bank. (And when you get pretty excited over a good buy and can’t wait to wear your new purchase, you may also want to leverage same-day deliveries.)

There are affordable options for these high-end kicks whether you’re on the court or off, or planning to hold onto them for years to come.

Are Air Jordans a Good Investment?

Jordans have continued to increase in value so, yes, they’re a good investment. (This reminds us of luxury handbags, which are often durable and stylish, but transcend the trends so they won’t sit in the back of your closet next season.)

Last year Jesse Einhorn, senior economist at StockX, told Town & Country, “When it comes to long-term sneaker prices, Jordans tend to appreciate over time. More than 80% of the Jordans in our marketplace have increased in value over the last year, a dozen models have appreciated more than $500, more than a hundred have at least doubled in resale value and the average top-selling Jordan has seen its resale price rise 27%.”
